Divine Spiritseers were not created capable of flight, it is considered one of the most precious gifts The Divine gave them.
The Protectors were the original guardian race, created to protect those without spiritual powers from malicious spiritual entities. While it was a good idea in theory, the biggest threat was not from the demons but the inhabitants of the planets themselves. Damnation insidiously planted the seed of evil into all spirits and waited for it to sprout. Sure enough, the seed of evil grew in the hearts of the weak and began to spread.
After the Protectors were corrupted by Damnation and became the Deception Snakes, The Divine decided enough is enough and wiped the universe of each and every one. The Divine always gives second chances, so they gave the Protectors one last chance to be what they were intended to be. The corrupted Protectors were destroyed, but a new race was created. They bare many traits their ancestors once had but the biggest differences are they now have bodies very similar to humans and their power has been significantly weakened. They were created with the knowledge of what happened to the Protectors. Then, The Divine waited.
For the first couple generations, nothing changed. They were still as violent as their ancestors. High-ranking angels were pleading The Divine to get rid of them, insisting they were merely a failed experiment. The Divine only told them to wait. They promised if this new race did not improve by the fifth generation, they would be eradicated. The complaints from the angels were silenced.
The third generation seemed to realize what they were doing, and began trying to get better. Despite failing, they attempted to restrain themselves. Fourth generation, still violent but better than they were. They were better at restraining themselves than their parents. Fifth generation, the generation that would determine the fate of the entire species. The fifth generation still had work to do, but they improved enough that The Divine decided to keep them around and see what they would become. Generation after generation passed and they evolved into one of the most peaceful, tolerant, and accepting races on the planet.
The Divine saw how much they have grown over thousands of years and gifted the Divine Spiritseers with wings on their backs. The wings symbolize The Divine's forgiveness, and a symbol of how far they have come. Despite that forgiveness, their beastly appearance was retained as it contains a warning for all future generations of Divine Spiritseers: Do not forget what you were, and do not go back to those times.
